Winter Weather Reminder

Snow Plow
It is in the best interest of the health, safety and welfare of Township residents for snow and ice to be removed from roadways as quickly as possible. Given the recent winter weather events, the Township would like to remind residents to be mindful of the Public Works Department's snow and ice removal efforts. To assist in this vital service, the Township requests that all South Strabane residents and businesses observe the following:
  • Township snow and ice control operations begin upon the accumulation of one or more inches of snow or ice on roadways, or as conditions demand.
  • Snowplow trucks spread salt on roadway surfaces to deter the accumulation of snow and ice. Laying salt, as opposed to plowing, is carried out when the snow depth remains below one inch during freezing weather conditions.
  • When removing snow, please avoid shoveling snow into or across public streets. This is specifically a violation of Chapter 201, Article I of the Township Code, noncompliance of which carries a fine of up to $600
  • Vehicles should not be parked in roadways during winter weather emergencies. In addition to hindering snow and ice removal operations, it impedes the passage of emergency vehicles when they are most needed. Please park all vehicles in driveways or otherwise off of public streets when weather merits the Township undergo snow and ice control operations as detailed above.

Thank you for your consideration and we hope everyone stays safe during inclement winter weather events.
