Volunteers Wanted

While the elected Board of Supervisors provides leadership and is the ultimate decision-making authority for South Strabane Township, the responsibility of local government falls on many citizens. Resident volunteers who serve on a variety of advisory boards and commissions are vital to the orderly and efficient operation of the Township. While applications for these entities are always accepted, there are currently several vacancies for which we are actively seeking interested candidates.

The following advisory boards currently have vacancies:

Zoning Hearing Board - Currently accepting applications for alternate members

Quasi-judicial entity comprised of 3 members and 2 alternate members serving 3-year terms. Has sole jurisdiction in determining zoning matters such as the granting of variances and uses by special exception. Meets the 2nd Monday of each month at 6 p.m.

Planning Commission - Currently seeking applicants for two open seats

Body comprised of 7 members who typically serve 4-year terms. Reviews and makes recommendations to the Board of Supervisors on matters regarding Land Development, Subdivisions, Zoning, Building and ensure development in the Township occurs in compliance with the Comprehensive Plan. Meets the 1st Thursday of each month at 7 p.m.

Building Code Appeals Board

Board comprised of 5 members who hear and decide appeals to the Township Building Code. Meets on an as-needed basis.

Vacancy Board

A Board comprising of the members of the Board of Supervisors and one Township resident responsible for filling vacancies that may arise for any elected Township office. The Vacancy Board only meets if the Board of Supervisors by themselves are unable to fill a vacancy within 30 days. The non-Supervisor will serve as chairperson should it be necessary for this body to meet.
