DFES to Test for Firefighter Hiring List

South Strabane Township is seeking to establish a hiring list for full and part-time firefighters. Application information is available below.

Applications and proof of the following minimum qualifications are due by 4:00 pm on Monday, July 13th 2026:

1. Age 21 at time of hire;
2. PA Fire Academy Issued or Pro-board-certified Firefighter 1 Certification at time of hire;
3. *PA Dept. of Health or National Registry Issued Emergency Medical Technician B;
4. PA Hazardous Material Awareness Certification; and
5. PA Class B CDL w/ air brake and tanker endorsements or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.

*Interested candidates without EMT-B certification may still submit an application, however are not guaranteed the ability to test; Chief Cramer will contact these candidates with more information.

Application packages which shall include a cover letter, resume, and a list of five work-related references are due by Monday, July 13th at 4:00 p.m. and shall be submitted in person to the Township Municipal Building (South Strabane Township, ATTN: Chief Cramer, 550 Washington Road, Washington, PA 15301) or by email to fire@southstrabane.com.

Candidates can choose one of two testing sessions: Thursday, July 16th at 1700; or Saturday, July 18 at 0900. Candidates unable to attend either sessions may contact Chief Cramer (jcramer@southstrabane.com) for possible alternate dates.

Testing for this position will take place at Station 2, 172 Oak Spring Road, Washington, PA, 15301. Candidates will start with the written test and complete their physical agility test immediately after written testing.
